I was introduced to photography at the age of 10 when I was given a Brownie camera for a family car trip across the midwestern US. Over the following years I considered becoming a professional photographer but I was bitten by the bug of science at an even earlier age and science won. My scientific work has taken me all over the world and given me the opportunity to follow both passions. Landscapes and people in distant lands, especially in the high mountains of the world, were the primary focus of my photography until a photo safari to Tanzania in 2015 opened my eyes to the wonders - and the challenges - of wildlife photography, especially photography of birds.
